What Fizzee said, a game built on a monthly sub going F2P = Fail.
They might in the end get even more money out of cash shops and what not, but from a player point of view it looks like a fail.

It sure as hell didn't go free to play because they had waaaayyy too many customers and too much cash in their bank accounts that they needed to stop the flow of $.

Unless you are very certain your MMO release is going to be a huge success and you have alot content to offer, it's not worth going for a subscription-model anymore. Look at how many games went F2P the past years, becuase they didn't offer enough to sustain with a subscription-model. On the contrary, look at all the games that started as pure F2P and turned into a major success. You don't need to be a fortuneteller to figure out that F2P is probably the much better buisness-model these days. Even SWTOR with their 300M dollar budget ended up going F2P, which didn't really suprise most of us. I blame WoW. Blizzard spoiled MMOs for most players.

Its funny how people think a company would keep endorsing a game with a staff AS IT FAILS AND COSTS THEM MONEY EVERY MONTH

always find it funny when people cry out that game X and X has failed. Just shows that they are not really thinking. If a corporation is not making any money of a product, you won't have a SWTOR server to log in to at all. It won't linger and "fail" every year so people can gloat over how horrible it is/was that is just a stupid mans naive thinking

reality hits hard bro :p tvar says it right

Edit: Also would like to add that any real company also makes predictions and shuts down something not working WAAAAAAAAY before it actually fails. If you think there is someone walking in to the office one day and going "SHIT WE ARE FAILING AS OF RIGHT NOW LETS GO F2P" you are hilariously mistaking. For all we know the path that SWTOR has been going might have been planned and prepared for since launch

Still the nr 1 mmo is P2P and most people recent the F2P idea unless they are either A. uninterested in the game overall or B. cheap and/or poor

I will rather play a subscription based game over some scam model made only to aggravate me in to spending more money then I need to by taking away tons of shit and putting it out of reach unless i spend about 50 euros a month to get to it. I always end up spending more on a F2P game because others like to play free cashy style while i simply cannot stand being handicapped and play half a game. f2p just does not interest me, if a game forces me in to micro-transactions here and there I won't play it for long or even at all...

I cant be the only one, recently i have basically stopped playing all MMO's because of this f2p plague

by poor I didn't really mean poor as in no job no money kinda poor. what i wanted to say was more that F2P caters to those that maybe are not all that interested in a specific game to even dedicate enough time to be competitive but just want to lulz around for free cashy style (like tvar) they love it

But take myself as an example i want to achive as much as I possible can while gaming and F2P becomes a problem for me, If i told you how much money i spent on Gw2 you would probably mock me to the end of times. Just because if its fucking there i will buy it to maximize my toons potential. While others might have a more "meh" approach to gaming i am slightly sick in the head and cannot resist to go all in

TLDR: I cannot play f2p it ruins me

it's not uncommon doodle. I know this couple that used to spend 10k/year on their F2P game.
I don't even wanna think about how much I spent on LoL already xD

What could you possibly NEED from the Gw2 shop to "maximize your toon's potential" that would take you to spending 4-digit numbers? Unless looks are a major part of that potential (lol).
Last I checked, aside from the odd boosters everything in there is pretty much statless fluff. And don't come back with "but I needed to gear up fast"-like bs. It's so ridiculously easy to max up your gear stat-wise in this game you really can't use that one ^^ (well, now it's a bit harder to squeeze that lil bit extra with the fractals but the gemshop has nothing to do with it).

To maximize your toon? Nothing , but for epeen ppl been buyng ingame gold with gems (lol) for the legendary and comma tag.

..which is also just fluff atm :) ..and perfectly obtainable without ever purchasing a single gem (took longer that way, yea), so just a personal choice to speed up the process of getting a shiny skin with no impact on toon "performance"

Yep, defo, but some want to be the firsts and that fluffs up the cash shop alot =)!.
Nothing wrong with it really, I am a man that believes in ''If you can, why not?'', Anet as many other companies knows that and will profit out of it .
    As they should. =D

'Bout performance, nothing is purchasable that will improve your toon, and that is a great thing as I hate P2W games that coat themselves in a F2P dress.
Thankfully Gw2 is not one of them , so far , I wouldn't play it.
I hope the next game will be P2P as it allways gives the player base the ''I'm paying, fix it'' attitude which usually gets things done =D.
After D3 we all felt the '' we got your money , cya '' attitude from the devs and I'm refraining myself from ever playing a f2p game seriously again.
Atleast RL AH gave me the possibility to be able to purchase the next 10 or so Blizzard games for free lol.

If you start at the same time from release and you want to be first with everything, yes this is a big part of gaming though maybe not to some, "only epeen" also a big part of gaming for some fyi. So yeah I can deffo see how people would consider GW2 P2W, but you don't, good for you, but that is your subjective oppinion ofc (that I respect).
