Morrowind? The Main Quest is top notch tbh. About Oblivion I can agree, simply because its short and not very interesting ...However if you add the lore/story behind it all it becomes a lot more interesting as well. I don't think BF3 can be compared, the game shows way too many patching and optical illusions to be considered better than Crysis. Is it better than Crysis 2 with the high res texture pack? I disagree.
Everyone does a comparison, even if they are not aware. The whole review system is based on comparison, i dont think Fallout or Dragon Age got 10 in graphics even though they probably had one of the best graphics in their genre back then. Once you see what an engine is capable of, you automatically become biased towards everything else. Some people more than others, but its still there. Morrowind i dont know, i feel like the main reason i loved the game wasnt because of the story, but its approach in liberty, art and enviroment style, and lore thanks to the books. But not really the whole quest to kill the bad guy and save the world. About Crysis 2, i guess its about personal taste. Someone likes cleaner enviroments and less movie like effects. But i guess it would be boring if everyone had the same opinions
Yes, the use of the term "inferior" might have been extreme or over the top. It was intended. It's why I marked it as sarcasm, to point out that it was meant to be a sharp, bitter, and/or cutting expression, remark, bitter jibe or taunt. I am sorry for your missunderstanding. It's my fault for not making my intentions much clearer than I did already. Please forgive me. Sincerely, Balmung
like furie said, stating that one game is doing a better job at one aspect of game design than another game is does not equate to him saying that one game is absolutely better than the other in every aspect because of it. You're making massive assumptions that havn't been implied.
But putting the books apart of the quests takes away everything! Half the quest givers don't just give you a book or two to read for nothing . There's like 3/4 sides of the story and main quests and it unfolds slowly as you progress, I think it's briliantly done. Also Tribunal fits onto that perfectly. Take away the books and you still have all the scrolls to read, take away that as well and yes I agree it isn't about the quest anymore no... There's also so much hidden humor in the books, I can't imagine playing Morrowind/Oblivion without reading them, takes the whole charm away.
Ok. Lets leave it at that... I'm making massive assuptions that haven't been implied. It's true that Cryengine 3 is more about movie visualization, but at the same time it was made for general usage using Crysis 2 as a kind of advertising, while BF3's engine was made especially for BF3 and porting this graphics engine to other games is questionable. Besides Skyrim is using newly made engine aswell, and we have'nt even seen it's capabilities but already are discussing it, and majority is already writing it off.
You can't drive a tank in Skyrim, so it sux compared to BF3.... Seriously folks, Chill out, were all capable of making random generalisations or at the very least being misunderstood to the point of making them. Ohh BTW, you SWTOR GFX haters, the game looks awesome when you play it. Skyrim will be awesome, can't wait to play it.
I think you're forgetting that this (The leaked videos) is on a console, and with a grimdark art direction. Not to mention what we look at the most is the characters, while it's really the environments of skyrim that shine (it's meant to be played first person, after all).
I think people are confusing graphics with art style maybe. I don't like the art style in Skyrim its kinda grungey if thats the word for it. I much prefer Graphics/art style of things like TERA even though they might not be very realistic. But Skyrims graphics do still look amazing.
Yeah, that is correct, it's always had that grunge feeling to it, and I think that's what attracts a lot of people. Think this will be particularly effective in Skyrim since it covers the Nord lore, so it'll reflect the feeling of isolation/abandonment from their frozen wastelands.
Exactly - art style is very well picked for this game looking from my perspective. And as someone already mentioned, if you don't like the current "look" of the game with mods you can make it look like frikin TERA ffs
You can have a perfect discussion about the graphics of a game without having played the game. Of course your opinion may change once you're actually playing the full game, but there's no reason why you shouldn't comment on what you've seen so far. I'm pretty sure other people here, yourself included, already have opinions on how Skyrim looks. But you haven't played it yet, have you? I gave three perfect reasons why I'm not impressed with the graphics of the game. As I said, the graphics are unimpressive because they are limited by both their tech and their artists. If what they're trying to achieve is a photorealistic look, then they have failed miserably. If they're not, then their art direction is just incredibly dull and their environmental artists not particularly skilled. The way the actual terrain and external objects like rocks and trees blend is so ugly to see. It's like artists couldn't find (or didn't have the skills to find) a clever way to work around the limits of their engine and come up with something which is really appealing to see. As a result of their outdated tech, their generic art direction and their unskilled artist, the landscapes lack appeal. They look old, uninspired and anonymous. They don't make me want to get immersed into this vast world and explore it... quite the contrary. That said, this discussion seems to be going nowhere. if you disagree with me, that's perfectly fine. We'll agree to disagree
Sebaz, you're so much insisting on how bad Skyrim's graphics are and how it shouldn't be appealing to anyone and yet you claim, that you're not implying its an inferior game just based on the graphics. Not sure if you're seeing it yourself or not, but that's what you're definatly implying. I'm not saying your opinion is wrong or trying to change your mind. You're entitled to freely express your opinion here or anywhere else. But it's obvious, that we can agree on this discussion leading nowhere, as in my opinion, you clearly don't realize what statement you're implying with the tone of your posts. Please do not take that as an offense, I mean no harm or to continue this pointless discussion on graphics, I just feel the need to express my opinion on the implications you've made with your, in my opinion, poor choice of words. Now I hope you will respect my opinion and bear with it as you expect us to do with yours. Hereby I'd also like to state that I do not imply for your opinion to be inferior to anyone elses. Thank you.
I'm just saying that it doesn't appeal to me. To me the game looks disappointing, but if you think it looks great, then great. I respect your opinion. I'm not implying anything. All I've said is that the environments don't look appealing to me. But for all we know, the game could have the best story ever and the best gameplay ever. I just gave my impressions on the visual part of the game. I didn't comment on any other aspect of the game. And again, if you don't agree with me, that's perfectly fine. Just try to understand that I'm not attacking the game because I'm such a hater, or something like that. I'm just giving my honest opinion on a part of the game I felt the need to comment on. If I didn't care for the game, I wouldn't even bother expressing how disappointed I am with a part of it.
saying the graphics is shit is an insult to the artists from what they've achieved on the outdated hardware in an xbox the amount of money that needs to be sunk into it to update it for PC is insane and they would never make back all the money they would have spent if they did anyway I'm looking forward to the game myself, not a big morrowind fan but this one seems to have what the other ones lacked Giving that huge open, no linear questing path and "if you can see it you can go there" approach is very appealing to me
Thankfully not everyone enjoys the whole Asian happy happy joy joy graphics and even though it may not be photorealistic I much prefer a darker or more modest setting in a game. The reason I don't agree with you SebaZ, is simply because you call artists unskilled because you don't like the style. The main reason I can think of why things may be difficult to blend is because much of the vegetation and art of it is fictional. EG: they're probably not making a photograph of some river with a bunch of tree's but they design their own fictional vegetation. If you played Morrowind, you could clearly see that much of the vegetation was unique, its named different, it looks different and it has its own unique alchemical purposes that do not reflect the real world! Still though, rather than comparing it to BF3 I compare the game to Fallout NV/Oblivion or The Witcher 2 and you definitely can see why they advertise their graphics. These are games either with a similar setting or previous engine. Or you could even compare it to Gothic III or Dark Souls (much more linear and console). Different engines, settings, genre all make it rather silly to compare to BF3. Honestly.
What can i say... 11 more days. Still trying to figure out the best deal out there, Amazon uk has it for 32 euros.
So I'm going to derail this off graphics and design because it has been going on for too long and growing dull, so let's move onto a more interesting subject! What will you be playing as? Pure mage, fighter/mage, rogue, etc? Really should make a poll about this but probably not enough people interested. I'll do the same I've been doing since TES3, a playthrough with a good-aligned pure mage, and another playthrough with an "evil" aligned rogue. What about you guys?
