They finally announced the next TES, been waiting for it since ages :O
I personally played Morrowind for hundreds of hours, I love the freedom in the Bethesda games (including Fallout)
Coming out on 11/11/11, exactly 11 months from when they announced it.

Btw epic theme, it gave me chills the first time i saw the trailer :D

That's good to hear as it really is needed.

Taking Fallout New Vegas as an example as I am playing it on an off atm, it's a great game, but it is really let down by the engine. Good to see they are moving to a new one for their next games.

Well its an old engine, I imagine they just used it as its adequate enough to not have to develop or purchase a new engine, NV is a good game, but it does get so laggy/jumpy at some points, especially last mission. Hasn't the company that developed gamebryo pretty much shut down now anyway, i doubt anybody would use an engine where a bunch of developers have walked from, unless they were really desperate for cost cutting.

Never played any of the fantasy style RPG games really, not where you play first person at least, LoL/CoD is all that is needed atm anyway :)

haha new my ass, I can already see some of the old stealth and melee attack animations. But still looking very much forward to this, it atleast looks a little smoother than before.

I just can't get into these solo play RPG's.

I played the last Elder Scrolls, Dragon Age, Neverwinter, FO3 and FO:New Vegas and out of them all, New Vegas is the only one I played longer than an hour. The rest I just sat thinking..... hmm..... its like an MMOG without the MM part, which for me, is like without the fun.

That said, I did REALLY enjoy New Vegas, so I guess its not so much the genre, its more the game. Thing is, what did New Vegas have that these other games didn't ? I dunno but for me it kept me hooked.

The game does look really nice however, so if anyone gets this then gets bored of it, I might take a loan of it at that point to see how it is, but I think this would be a half hour game for me. :(

I don't understand why you enjoyed new vegas and not Fallout 3 either :p. Fallout 3 ending was pretty bad though, but the Broken Steel addon more then makes up for it.

About TES, well I did like TES 4 : Oblivion, however the main story sucked ass ...badly. All the sidequests and sidecampaigns (factions) were all more fun than the actual main quest. So if you are the kind of player that prefers linear gameplay and just want to go from A to B and not from A to X back to T and all the way to B then TES 4: Oblivion was a horrible game, but if you went out and explored everything and after completing the game went and modded the game adding new content and also adding the expansions it is alot better!

However I still like Morrowind and even the older TES games more but that may just be nostalgia. Things I hated about TES 4 were the lame and boring melee animations, the dungeons which all really looked the same to me. Some of the side-quests which felt too grindy and the lack of statisfaction you sometimes got for completing a sidequest, but I blame the shitty mainquest for that. The same problems Fallout 3 and New Vegas still have tbh although atleast the melee animations are a little better in New Vegas (think they actually put some effort in).

But by far the biggest flaw with these sandbox games are the amount of bugs, they do interrupt gameplay alot. Hopefully TES 5 will be as polished or more polished than their previous games, but I suspect it will contain even more bugs and crashes.. It seems to be the trend today to deliver unpolished games.

Personally I prefer the fallout universe over the TES series but that is mostly due to choices having more impact in Fallout and guns being way more fun then bows and lame animated melee weapons. However all this animation and graphic bollocks aside, I really hope they add more impact to the choices you make in single player games (and multiplayer even more). The game that did this best thus so far is Fallout 2 Imho, different team different time...

Yea Pete, no idea why I like NV and hate FO3, but meh.

I think the whole "guns and nukes" thing holds my interest more that "swords and spells" when playing single player though, hence why TES, Dragon Age and others just failed to hold my interest. Solo play games take alot to keep my interest as there is no TS chatter to stop you from getting bored with the game.

I agree with Alaisy, Oblivion had a rather dull main story line but the huge world and the freedom to do what you want in it really kept me hooked. I liked Morrowind a lot, but I actually never played the storyline of that game and rather just went around exploring.

I can't decide which one I like most though. Morrowind felt bigger, a lot harder (there was no scaling, so at lvl 1 you could literally run to the hardest part of the game and get wtfpwnd, as newbie it felt kinda shitty).
Oblivion however, had the scaling, which was badly implemented since the unique drops/quest items didn't scale if you didn't get a mod for the game (which was only available on PC, I started Oblivion on my Xbox, then got me the PC version just for mods and the official addons which I ninjad somewhere). The combat system in Oblivion felt better as well, you actually hit something (but damages sucked/easily blocked/...) whereas in Morrowind you just kept bashing and bashing to hit 1/10 times, got fed up with that :p

So for me, both had their good sides and bad sides. And I truly hope Skyrim becomes a combination of the good things his predecessors had and works out the bad things.

wow I actually agree with Aspira, I don't quite get the point in playing an off-line fantasy RPG, sci-fi/modern day RPGs i get, because there is not many (if any) decent ones out there for MMO that isn't fireballs, swords and big boobed elves. NV was much better than FO3, it felt much more open, not counted factions/camps but just felt like there was more to do, and many different ways to do it.

Cant wait for this autumn (Bf3+Skyrim), hopefully it will compensate the dullness of the past months.

But yeah. I refuse to think/talk/watch anything skyrimrelated.

lol yea no need to watch it anyway, it will be awesome. I'm at 400 ish hours in Morrowind now and finished Tribunal and busy with Bloodmoon. Read all the ingame books I came across, and there's a lot of hidden humour in that game :p.

I never really realised what the size of the lore was in that series, the first TES game I played was Redguard, skipped Morrowind and played Oblivion. Now I can honestly say, wtf was I thinking skipping Morrowind...

Oh well, I'm hooked to a game that's 9 years old now. That says something about the content and quality.
