There's a thread on the go over at the MLG forums discussing whether or not some of the matches in the tournament over the weekend were won/lost due to the lack of soundproofing the player areas like they do at GSL. Thread is linked here: http://forums.majorleaguegaming.com/topic/221987-mlg-dallas-sc-commentators/ This video interview of IdrA also has him saying that the soundproofing ins't great and he heard that his opponents was going rays. I think rather than soundproofed booths for the next MLG they should probably worry more about getting a decent live stream and actually broadcasting the games people want to see instead of "The Stream Will Review Momentarily" when some of the better games were on. A little offtopic, but in that interview when asked "who are you most worried about playing", I seriously loled when he said "any of the good protoss players like Naniwa, Kiwi...... nope just Naniwa and Kiwi.", loving this IdrA HuK hatred.
Well, this is really bad... if people want e-sports to pick up, they have to get their game straight... These amateur mistakes of not having soundproof... what's next? they're going to play 1v1 right next to each other so they can peek at each other's monitor ? wtf?
Threads about this over on the TeamLiquid website too: http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=208112
bf1942 streaming was way more difficult but somehow they managed to stream 3 games at the same time and u could watch what u wanted... but ofc was a german league with german admins but international players with over 480k viewers per weekend just lol if u can hear what the other person is doing tbh, makes scouting less usefull and u can concentrate on other things if thats true
They turned the commentator sound off from the audience area after that game, but GSL had these problems as well - Jinro overheard the korean commentators getting very excited while Idra was cheesing him . ( they further soundproofed the booths after that ).
Yea I remember that. I know from reading their forums that MLG don't have the soundproofed cubicles due to space constraints, but to be honest, a high level tournament featuring some of the best players in the world really shouldn't have to rely on noise cancelling headphones, which it seems were not enforced, to substitute for the soundproofed cubicles. This whole thing probably didn't cause as much issues as the forums are making out, but the fact it effected one game is bad enough.
MLG was just terrible, I can't believe how badly it was managed. You can't really compare it to the stuff that GOM produces as they have their own studios etc but of course they are far superior. I noticed that I didn't have any streaming issues when playing the TSL - anyone else? That worked fine and their streams were pretty clear!!
