So, i've been looking at getting a Nostromo : http://store.razerzone.com/store/ra...parentCategoryID.35156900/categoryId.53491100 , does anyone have any experience with it, be it good or bad? any other recommendations for keypads?
Fizzee uses a Nostromo and swears by it. I used to dabble with a G13, but tbh, they take a lot of time to get used to and until you master them, you are slower and less accurate in your gaming, so I sold mine and just use mouse/keyboard. If your willing to put in the time and effort to teach some muscle memory on the keypad, then I guess it could be great for you, but personally I don't think you can ever beat the speed and precision of the mouse and keyboard combo when it comes to gaming.
Everytime these are raised I always spend 20 minutes thinking about how great it would be to have one, but I always end up deciding not to. I mean, what's the difference between that and a regular keyboard? On the gamepad you have your WASD keys for movement plus programmable keys around WASD, but you have all those on a keyboard anyway as every game is customizable nowadays.. So the only advantage is the D pad, which seems pretty pointless, and the hand positioning. To anyone who's been using one of these models for awhile, what advantages have you noticed?
from what i've been told from people that uses one, the "ergonomic" of the thing is great, and it's supposedly very comfortable to use compared to a kb.
I have had it since Age of Conan. Ergonomically it's great, the direction pad is terrible and the macroing easier than ever. If you are playing an mmo that doesn't need tons of keys it will do fine BUT if you are to play an mmo that requires a lot of keybinds it will be the worst purchase of your life. First person shooters work like a charm.
Fizzee swears by these I was chatting to him about it during a 'game' once not too long ago and he said that if you are wiling to retrain yourself to use it which I would imagine would take a while depending on how long you've been playing and your aptitude for such things they rock, however i have tried to use one, all be it a long time ago and it didnt look half as snazzy as the Razor type ones do. I think it was before they were involved or something cos mine was Belkin or something like that and I hated it, something about the angle of the wrist and the feeling of the keys on my fingertips was sooo fuckin annoying things like that do my head in,and ended up being slat into the cupboard along with another gadget buy fails......but you gotta take into account that I'm an old B'tard used to flintstone keyboards, also you have to program the thing ever time you log into a new game i'm not sure how the support is now it has to be better than it was....
Well the buttons aren't that many compared to a keyboard so if you use 4 of them for directional purposes there aren't enough left for mmo's like Aion for example.
Nagas, Nostromos... I find it much easier to shift from WASD to ESDF and take advantage of QWRTAG234 (and use SHIFT to mod those) than getting used to using 12 buttons on the mouse with just your thumb or using something like this...
so you use the directional pad for more shortcuts, assigning keys to left/right/up/down, or you use the directional pad for the movement? just trying to get an outline of how people are using them, always interested in different ways and yeah specter, i generally use ESDF too. gives much more accessibility on the left.
If i would use that gamepad ever again i would use the directinal pad as 4 extra keybinds and not as a directional pad. Having said that missclicks will be happening more than often especially in the heat of battle (let's say you try to press the up direction but you end up pressing the left direction first and then the up) because this directinal pad is horrible and not as responsive as it should be. It all sums up to the fact the this directional pad is poorly built/designed while the rest of the Gamepad is really good. ps If you try and use the directional pad as intended (as a directional pad that is) then you ll end up with a really big ache in the bone supporting your thumb.
I have used the G13 for almost 2 years and it has improved my gaming by quite a large margin when it comes to mmos and moba games. Its simply the best thing ever, I do however dont use it for fps games since I just havent put the training in. Once you master it, you will improve alot. I can access 12 more buttons then a keyboard user without even moving my hand. So its a big improvement, I didnt really find it that hard to learn either.
I could be wrong and can't check it out atm but if my memory servers me right the G13 has more buttons than the Nostromo. Could be wrong though.
Dunno about the Nostromo, but the G13 has 25 individual keys you can configure, and ofc 4 different modes, so 25x4 different buttons on the fly
Aye the Nostromo Belkin one has 16 buttons so i guess the G13 prolly could cut it for mmo's. I suppose G13 > Nostromo then , cheers Jugg.
I havent really used the Nostromo, but I can sure vouch for the G13, very nicely built, I used my first one for 1,5 years without it even glitching, and I just got my new second one The macro/profile handling is very nice. You can store the profiles both on the comp and the G13 itself if you play at other comps alot.
