I thought this forum looked a bit bare, so I said I'd kick it off with some musings on the PvP experience. Was wondering if these were reflective for other people and if there were ways for me to improve my experiences. 1) This is possibly my graphics card (if it is I'll system upgrade) but game play is lacking in smoothness. Especially would melee combat where I think the frame drawing rate is a little poor. I'm finding it quite hard to hit people in melee as they run about. Is this common or perhaps just my system? 2) Sometimes it looks like players jump down and you follow them. They've disappeared and you see them back up on the higher level - they had never jumped down. Again - my system, latency, lag? Running on 50MB/sec connection with 50ping though. 3) You are queued for PvP -> Huttball. You are queued for PvP -> Huttball. You are queued for PvP -> Huttball. You are queued for PvP -> Huttball What the hell is up with this? From the queues I've had perhaps 5 times more Hutballs than the other types. Is there no way to turn off specific warfronts? 4) Hutball - I'm finding it difficult to enjoy healing in Hutball. There are so many levels, obstacles, air ducts and traps that it seems almost impossible to heal effectively in this warfront. For example, all my heals are about 2 seconds casting. So I'm following the ball carrier, who jumps in the air stream. I follow into the air stream - get sent somewhere else and can't heal. We come to fire blocks - I can't heal up here or I'll miss the path through the fires and be out of range of the ball carrier. 5) Healing in general seems weak in warfronts. Perhaps this will scale well though and others may have positive experiences they can share on it. Having said all this, I'm level 18 at the minute and there are lots of enemies with a lot more skills than me and with many more talents. So I guess it's always going to be difficult, even if my hps have been upgrading to a similar level. This thread isn't too complain about PvP, but rather to see if there are ways to improve my experience. I still found it enjoyable. But if there are ways to improve that enjoyment I'd love to know. Huttball gets more often because of faction imbalance. Huttball is the only battleground that pits Empire vs. Empire. Hence why you'll get in there more often. Agreed on the healing. Also, having bugged raid frames in warzones (with them not updating) makes healing night impossible. Another point I'd like to raise is not having brackets for warzones. At low levels, that is cool, though higher levels are still better due to having more talents and abilities. However, at high levels it becomes very frustrating being forced to play with players much less experienced and with a much less grown character. I see a pattern of the side with the highest levels winning in there, just as with 'normal' bracket BG's. Sure hope there'll be a 50-only warzone bracket in the end.
Oh yeah, forgot to mention that raid frames issue. It's dreadful looking at a full health bar as they drop to the floor dead. Half the time, you end up trying to manually click on players because you have to see who the person is taking damage. Sometimes they are dead before you get them selected.
Well, first BG experiences i had sucked. Low lvl and useless. Things do improve with leveling though, as i find myself better able to help my team (or myself). I even got my first solo kill in hutball last night I still haven't figured out if those air-jump-pads work randomly or in some specific way. As far as lag goes, even with my steady 100-120ms (best my line can do i guess) i dont get any teleportation bugs. And melee combat seems surprisingly smooth to me at least. My target is within range when he "looks" to be within range. My only pvp problem so far is the camera distance. It's a lot closer to my char than what i would feel comfortable with. Any way to change that?
So where are the tips? I've been having a blast on my Juggernaught in PvP, not having any latency/FPS issues either (then again its no average system). What does help is sometimes alt+tabbing and back in or just restarting the game quickly, there's still a few memory leaks that can get reset that way. The same goes for Flashpoints/Heroics, sometimes just alt+tabbing seems to help. As for the healing part, playing as a Tank needing my commendations from protecting people I actually need a healer. And a healer needs the protection to actually do enough healing to keep someone alive, so demand some tank to Guard you and make sure to stay within 15m range! What I (dis)like though about Huttball is the incredible effectiveness of Knockbacks (into goo, fire or simply off the edge), Charges (you can charge up to your enemy with the Huttball on you and score), but what by far wins/loses matches is 2 Assassins playing the ball to eachother with one stealthed at the enemy base just to catch it and sprint towards the line. Anyway I've been doing ok solo in battlegrounds, just grab the Huttball run to the fire and pop my saber ward + Immortal cooldowns and if I'm lucky some idiot opponent is ready to be charged at. @ Reli: You can turn up Camera Max distance, first thing anyone should do!
I think Reli means that form a 3d perspective point of view he (i feel the same way) is either too close to his character's back or too far away. There is no intermidiate camera position. As for the op i am more annoyed with the global cooldown in this game than in any other(from a melee point of view). Not even close though to saying i don't like this game though, it looks really sweet and polished.
That's because you are mashing buttons, just press one at a time or add some time to the ability queue timer (adjustable in options). There's several abilities that are instant and go between queue'd attacks, learn how they work and it becomes a lot less frustrating. PS: Waiting for my exam atm, otherwise I would be playing right now .
Healing in Warzones will scale fantastically well with gear. In PvP you get a permanent debuff caled Trauma which reduces healing by 30%. Expertise, the "pvp stat" has a factor called "trauma ignore" which will eventually penetrate this debuff entirely at a high enough rating. tbh, I like this. It stops healers being overpowered at low gear levels compared to damage dealing classes. PvP at low level with no gear is just really shitty. Aclarity (haste) will reduce your GCD from 1.5sec to 1sec eventually which will help dramatically, which again is simply a gear/time issue.
Apparently it reduces the GCD for when an ability is used that takes less than 1.5sec to cast. Its possibly just a bug though, and hasn't been officially confirmed. It might even have been fixed by now.
