I was watching expendables 2 (which is obviously the reason for the fails) when there was a loud sdjfswldfka;sf noise (kindof like a crackle as the sound cuts out unexpectedly), and everything froze. Si i powered it down by holding power button, left it a little while and attempted to turn it back on, only to get nothing showing on either monitor. They aren't receiving picture at all. I tried putting a different graphics card that we know works in my PC, and still same error. I put my graphics card in a different PC and it worked fine. The only thing I can think of is that it's the motherboard. Does anyone have any different opinions? If it is, it looks like I'm in the market for a new PC.
first off, as said several times, PSU. That's the most likely and easy fix. If that works still, try bypassing the power switch, some mobos have a button on board, some you just need to put a small screwdriver accross the pins (Google it) If still not booting then reset the cmos (unplug lead, take out battery of mobo, switch jumper accross for 20 seconds, then put everything back) Still failing, post here a budget and we'll design you a new system cheaply. (Plus if you buy anything from novatech you can enter my online rep code "5696" and give me bonus commission )
tried a different power supply, followed by all the things fizzee suggested, and it's still buggered. Reasonably sure it's the port the graphics card slots into. It goes with my failed RAM port. this is my plan so far. I have memory and hard drives already. All I really need advice on is the graphics card unless you think something should definitly be changed. I can't decide between 680 and 670. Anyone have any opinions, or good offers going on atm on graphics cards?
I'd be inclined to go i5 3570k unless you are doing much rendering and non gaming stuff. Save some cash and similar performance. Also the 670 is only about 4-5% slower in gaming, so you could buy it and overclock and easily match the 680 if you wanted to, (though I'd probably settle for the 4% difference) Also... the same GTX 670 cheaper... remember enter 5696 at checkout
This is a known issue with Expendables 2 - see this quite old post here Expendables Graphic Issues Resolved
Astarael - If your getting a new case and your case sits on top of a desk and not on the floor (if you put your case on the floor your gay) then I suggest getting a Silverstone Raven. The new ones are the same price as that case you linked and I have had mine for about 3 years now and its always kept my PC very cool, even in the roasting hot tropical summers we get in Scotland.... Nah but seriously though, the rotated motherboard design that allows the heat to travel vertically out of the case is a really nice design and my same setup runs colder in this case than it did in my old coolermaster (the Silverstone case is huge though). As for graphics, be a pro, get a Radeon. Everyone knows Nvidia graphics cards give you herpes.
it's going on the floor, my brother just bought that case I linked and it's brilliant (literally, he got his new pc setup and finished about 1hr before mine failed. I'm using basically exactly the same parts for mine), and I'm almost definitly getting nvidia unless someone supremely in the know convinces me otherwise in the next few hours.
I'd always recommend a Fractal Design case. I don't think I'll be replacing mine at all unless mobo screw holes end up changing. Never had a problem with overheating and since it has loads of sound dampening, it's pretty much silent. Then again I do have a 'Be Quiet' PSU, and since the PSU fans are usually the cheapest part of the whole builds, that's where the noise mostly comes from. Btw, I always buy nVidia. But there's not a big deal between the 2 really.
changed my card to an Asus GTX 670, basically same thing just rates a little bit higher out the box and runs a little cooler and quieter. every little helps. Also my personal preference always leaned towards asus over msi. but yeah, I think that'll be it. It's due Tuesday! Tal I'm very sorry, you'll have to carry Aspira alone in LoL until then!
Tal All set up and running now, only thing I can't seem to get right is sorting out sabnzbd. It's downloading at like 250kb/s instead of the constant 3mb I had before. Any ideas on what I've missed. I'll probably work it out eventually, but impatient!
