Not much said about PvP but they clearly stated that they are going to follow Starcraft 2 and League of Legends and aim to be an eSport game. Way to go aNet
"We're taking inspiration all the way back from the 8-bit era" Drowning music? : DDD Posted from my Android, using a fucking browser.
I haven't played any GW but I was told it was very instanced and almost felt single player at times(but hey so do a lot of mmos every now and then), is the case in GW2? This whole eSport thing with GW2 though seems meh, I remember seeing the tourneys of Aion in KR looked good just depends how well its done.
GW1 was an eSport game and people loved it for that, the ones that pvp'd in that game all agree that it was the best organized pvp in an online rpg. Yes i didnt say MMO because it wasnt a fucking MMO, you could make a pvp only character the moment you buy the game and have the same gear/upgrades of the people that played since ages. The time spent into the game didnt give you an absolute advantage (like superior gear or weapons), but "only" more game knowledge. Like any other competitive game. And yes it was heavily instanced but noone fucking cared, unless you were there only for the PvE; but then if that was the case, it was the wrong game for you anyway so it was more of a benefit to the community as it helped milking down the PvErs and make them go back to WoW. GW has always been advertised as a PvP game since the launch, i remember when i bought the game the first thing i noticed on the box was a huge "100k$ worldwide tournament" sticker. The only reason the game didnt get enough following is because internet wasnt still a true alternative media and the only game genre accepted as an esport by the sponsoring companies and tournament organizers was the FPS/RTS. The king of the eSports games was Starcraft1 but only in Korea, and that's because the traditional media backed it up and helped the game gain a following and a competitive community. Now 6+ years passed since the first GW came out, streaming sites are more popular and the avarage player's connection is 100x times faster than the ones we had back then ( i knew people playing with a 56k modem or a ISDN connection, gotta love italy) EDIT: And yes sorry for ranting again for the same topics, i know ive been repeating myself but i really cant stand certain statements towards GW1 or eSports in general without any real knowledge to back them up. Yes i am a hopeless fanboy, what can i do?
gay reporter reports on the shit we know already http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/06/30/the-mmo-report-guild-wars-2-edition/ release gw2 instead of dicking around already!
Well, as much as I like their ambitions to go into eSports with GW2, that's a really tough ground and only the best games survive in there. Recently Quake Live was removed from the IEM, despite it's popularity, to be replaced with the more attractive League of Legends. Maybe they can score with creative gameplay and good looks (Quake Live lacked both imo)
I play LOL everyday, fun game, but I will replace it with anything in an instant without a 2nd thought if there was anything out there I liked. The game is full of raging kids, the only real way to always have fun is to play with 3v3 premade or 5v5 premade. Any random games is just kids moaning crying and bitching.
Didn't say anything about high standards, but eSports is a popularity contest, w/e gets you the most viewers is ontop, and LoL scored big at Dreamhack due to great advertising and support by Riot.
We'll see what support GW2 gets, if they're really pushing for the e-sports thing, I can't see them not looking to get good support with it
More like shutting the eu servers down during the weekend faking problems and forcing ppl to watch the tourney with well placed links Ok j/k, but it was suspicious.
EU servers are massivly overpacked all the time, hence the server split for EU west and EU east coming soon
Well they were "rather" fine before the dreamhack fiasco, avaraging 20-30 min queues in peak times. During and after Dreamhack i had 3hour queues with errors when i finally managed to log, but anyways like said i was joking
All in all riot fails when it comes to the game backend. it has been like that since beta... Everything that is not gamedesign in League of Legends is a complete SHIT. But what can i say, the game is really well thought, and its by far the best of the genre.... Good game design, terrible implementation.
