Today was full of PvE, PvP, building and exploring. But first a screenshot of the team in front of their spiffing new house:

Boon and AAPortal decided that today was the day to build a boat - well at least try to! Before that though the team headed off to the 1st PvE instance that ArcheAge has to offer for this CBT.

Lets see what Fallanx had to say about his experiences in the instance:

"So today we went for a wandered through the level 20 (ish) instance. We came across multiple elements that you already find outside in the world, rope, ladders, elevators as well as destructible content including wood bridges and platforms.

During the live stream I blew up a bridge to clear a group of mobs, check out the full run on the live stream channel."

Fafa TV: CBT3 Day 5 - PvE Instance
Fafa TV: CBT3 Day 5 - Destructible Bridge

As Fallanx is a '(french)man of few' words, here are a few pictures to give you and idea of what went on:

    (outside waiting to head in)
    (just inside)
    (random internal shot)
(ok, own up who blew up both the bridges)
    (because I want to)
    (a mini-boss)

"After the instance we headed off to collect the required materials for our next building project - a ship, this required less total labour points for the build than the house, but require more specialised materials than just wood and stone. Whilst hunting for the remaining materials I bumped into this:"

"A world boss of sorts, thankfully some other players tanked and killed this guy, while I'm good I'm not that good :p

Materials I headed back to the Nuian docks to meet up with KaticChops, Freddis, RimTim and co, KC and I got slightly distracted by a couple of other boats and decided to have a quick look around!"

    (video care of the Chops)

"While we were looking around a battle started (in no way was this started by us, honest) with some of the other random guys around with ships. It was very intense and some of them even sunk! We found out you can shoot the coast with the cannons on board and shoot other players in the water already - cannonball to the face, ouch!!

Unfortunately we ran out of time to build our own boat and will have to start and finish it on the final day of CBT3."

While Fallanx, Chops and co were busy building and playing Navy on the Nuian Alliance side, I was busy hunting around with my fellow Ferres from the Hariharan Alliance and will hopefully have all my video footage from the CBT uploaded to YouTube very soon.

I'll leave you with this picture from the epic naval battle outside the Nuian Docks:

Admitedly the characters doesn't look that buff that I want them too. Go ahead and get some super anime manga like pewpew armor or airplane wing-like weapon for me, mkay? :)

Indeed, boat owner were able to summon and unsummon them with a sextant in their inventory.

    Yea it is.

The whole ships and naval warfare is really well done. The only criticism I have is that you can despawn your ship mid combat to stop it dying. Even if it does die, the penalty is you can't summon it for 10mins or something. I would like to see ships only being able to be summoned/de-summoned whilst you are near a shore or in a port, and if your ship dies, its dead, gone forever, go make a new one.

I admit to some people this may seem harsh the way I would like to see it done, but in its current format, everyone will end up with multiple ships and there will be no real risk involved in naval battles. I like risk and reward to be a primary factor in my PvP experience. Other than that issue, which to be fair this is only CBT3 so things are subject to change, is the only real issue I found with ships. Overall I was impressed.

I agree with tvar, the characters look sub-par compared to the other mmo's on the pipeline... The animations (movement, etc) are not rift (AKA shit) but aren't that great either...

The scenery looks nice on the outdoors, i think they did a great job with the nature textures, sky and trees, but the caves seem to lack some detail.

All the mechanics like building houses, etc may seem great on paper, like minecraft, but i'm afraid the game will drain itself really fast if you dont have end-game purposes (talking about pvp, here). So i ask:
    - Is there any kind of organized pvp ? Be it sieges at some schedule or Guild vs Guild tournaments, etc? I remember AoC had all of those: free world gank, organized pvp (pvp minigames with capture the flag mode and something else) and sieges aswell. Arguably the implementation wasn't the best at the time, and maybe today it's far better, but since the game lost it's initial flame... Anyway, i was talking about Archeage...

    whats with the dwarf triplets

also the whole ship despawning u talking about it would be cool if u destroyed the ships so people had to rebuild them

About the characters, the equipment had the same skins at this stage, so all weapons looked the same all armour had same skin etc also all the gear was lowie gear which looks scrub and boring some NPC had some nice looking.
The game also looks much more impressive ingame than the streams, fraps and even the screenshot which don't do it justice, but over all its play and feels like Aion gfx rather than rift/warhammer.
Remember this is not Aions Closed beta which had been played and tested by 4 million players for 6 months already and beenin beta for almost 2 years,, this is a from scrap beta where you could see areas had not yet been worked on, this game has ALONG way to go to be anything like a complete mmo, so god knows what teh end game is going to be like Specter,, but they sure have given themselves alot of options and potential from what I have seen so far of the game, lets hope, meaningful world pvp and server wide conflict is in thier plans.

Answer to all these questions has been available on this site and aaportal and archeagesource for weeks.

This game looks promising, is it p2p or f2p?? (i guess p2p), and any info about release date is there yet??

Release date is 2012 for Korea, more than likely Q1/Q2 but I have not seen anything official yet. More than likely looking at 2013 for EU/NA release realistically.

Again, unsure as to whether it will be p2p or f2p, but considering most MMO developers are favouring the f2p with micro transaction model now, I wouldn't be surprised if we saw f2p with a shop offering cosmetic items etc. etc.

As the majority of the dev team come from Lineage and L2, that should give you an idea of the PvP. They've also said the PvE will be akin to WoW, including end game PvE.

Sandbox wise imagine UO, the fact you can master all skill trees on one character is a major bonus. Didn't manage to do that much crafting, but there are 15 different crafts to master!! Building and cultivating, well we saw basic house and ship building, I'd imagine that was only the start of it, cultivating was quite interesting, forests popped up out of no where, same with treelined roads. My only gripe about cultivating was that sheep/cows disappeared after sheering/milking rather than staying in world!

If you mean it looks similar graphically, then you need to see an optician.

If you mean it looks similar because its in a cave, then lol, guess caves were first created in RIFT and so unique to that game.....

The two instances share nothing in similarity other than they were both caves, and if you draw comparison on that then lol.

The environment didn't look that shit in Rift though, 'twas mainly the characters, animations and gear, stuff, models that looked like KC's kids painted them with crayons. The landscape and shit (hedge-mazes excluded lol ffs -.-') looked ok, so don't get all touchy mkay? :p

Wouldn't it be cool if you couldn't despawn them in combat/at sea but they'd still remain in your inventory, and then had to be repaired with a combination of labor points and a few resources? Rather than having you make a new ship every time. Feels a bit more casual friendly while still being cool.
