Hello everyone,

Intro
Please let me introduce myself and "us", my name is Dean "Aneu" Lewis, I am the leader of VoTF(us) and have been involved in gaming and PvP for quite some time and with VoTF since 2003. We are very confident gamers with a desire for competitive game-play in MMO form. We have been involved in giving some in depth feedback since beta and have attempted to continue this through to live.

This thread is not to try and big ourselves up but to bring to light some of our biggest concerns and what we believe to be a huge flaw in Biowares creation.

Some of our feedback has been taken to heart by Bioware and used (thankfully) to make changes in the upcoming patches however we have been doing tests on our current server "The Ravager" to address a far more fundamental problem that SWTOR is going to face.

The Situation & Overview
Over the past few days I have been organising some guilds on the enemy side to meet VoTF and one or two other guilds on Ilum in order to perform some tests on how OWPvP will play out and how the client responds to said activity. RUSCorp returned the call out and attended in force. What we discovered was very disturbing and we are shocked at the poor performance the client portrayed while this fight was going on. We have both video and verbal evidence from multiple fronts to cover the issues.

Before we get into that let me take a few minutes of your time to set the scene and give a rundown of the computers taking part in this test.

I was using TechPowerUp and AI Suite II (asus) to monitor my CPU and GPU.

There were 40 members in attendance from VoTF with multiple small pockets of Republic groups, there was also almost 80 members of RUSCorp in attendance with multiple small pockets of random Empire groups.

Please be aware that I am not a tech-head. I know my way around a computer and am quite capable of coding multiple languages however server infrastructure is not my strong point so I will leave that to Shalina who is the guy I go to for that kind of stuff.

What occurred then?
Below you will find a summary of what happened during this very small test. For a game that is supposedly designed on an engine that is meant to run MMO style games I am dismayed at how this can be the result. My personal opinion is not that the Engine is a terrible one, while not fantastic, I believe Bioware simply have not optimised it to the point that is required for a modern day MMO.

(a)Bad Points

The Client does not utilise my GFX cards resources

Random freezes on the Ilum quest updates

FPS

Skill lag

Crashes

Lowering settings DECREASES fps

(b)Good Points

Latency

a1- During the lowest FPS situations my GFX card was running at 35-40% load. That means that less than half of my GFX card was being utilised by the client - while in other games I have seen my GFX card GPU load at about 80% while memory controller load in SWTOR was at 10%.

a2- This was by far the most annoying thing to contend with, while doing all of this when Ilum changed hands or a quest update happened the game would freeze for 2 seconds if not more, whether this is client side or the client waiting for a response from the server (highly doubt it due to full freeze) I don't know however this should not happen.

a3- FPS issues were rife, people with top end computers were getting rates of 0.5 - 2 FPS most of the time and keep in mind that this was a very small fight compared to other games.

a4- Skill lag was constantly at 2-5 seconds before they would activate or hit.

a5- Very few people didn't crash, almost everyone in our raid crashed at least once and the same with the enemy raid. These crashes continued even after the fighting stopped and even happened on the Republic fleet when I ported back.

a6- This is the most shocking of all and shows the lack of optimisation done by Bioware. Lowering graphic settings did not increase FPS at all, it actually lowered my FPS! after testing with Nvidia Inspector and changing so many graphical settings I can now say without a shadow of a doubt that this is one of the most poorly optimised games I have ever played.

b1- To be fair to the server there was no latency drop during any of the fighting, only some minor drop when getting into Ilum and approaching the center point where the groups were.

As you can see from this video taken from 3 different angles the slide show that was Ilum with about 150 people engaged in combat is quite shocking.

Conclusion
Bioware need to act and very soon with regards to optimising this game if they wish the 1.1 patch to be taken seriously. The new daily and weekly quests will mean large amounts of people will now travel to Ilum to take part in world PvP and to complete their quests, if our experience is anything to go by then the complaints about PvP will not reduce or lower on volume, they will increase in both frequency and intensity.

We will be pushing this as much as possible from our end to get some more contact with regards to these issues from Bioware, hopefully by doing this we can get them to prioritise this as a key issue even more than they are doing so currently (I am almost 100% sure they are taking this seriously as it is), however that is not to say the game should be in this state as it stands, it shouldnt.

The feedback given here is an investment in Bioware and we would not have done this if we didnt want to play, we want SWTOR to succeed and we want the potential the game has to shine through and get to the true place it deserves, however Bioware needs to fix potential game breaking issues such as this before they can even contemplate any further PvP released (esp owpvp).

That whole post was pretty spot on to be honest, I'm actually glad there are so many people trying to address issues rather than just complain. It is Ilum now but back in Beta it was every planet that was terribly low on FPS, pretty sure they'll manage to do something about the optimization, no reason not to give Bioware some pressure though.

Aneu has been mentioned several times in this thread and it has only barely gone downhill.
I think we need to speed it up a bit.
